What does a supercharger kit do? Why buy a supercharger?

A supercharger is a form of forced induction. Superchargers offer perhaps the most dramatic increase in horsepower to your car of any aftermarket products. By compressing the air, it lets the engine stuff more air into a cylinder. More air means that more fuel can be stuffed in, too, so you get more power from each explosion in each cylinder. A supercharger’s power supply comes from a belt that connects directly to the engine. It gets its power the same way that your water pump or alternator does.

A traditional under the hood air intake, otherwise known as day Short Ram Intake, normally goes along the same path as a stock intake system. There are some unique differences between the Fuji Air Short Ram for instance replacing factory rubber air intake with an aluminum plenum, this eliminates the resonators, drop-in filter, gearbox, and replaces it with and open filter element.

What’s the difference between a cold air intake and a short ram intake?

A cold air intake is normally placed in the fender well area, which takes in a cooler charge air from beneath the car (outside of the engine bay), which is a much denser air and therefore increases the power of your engine. The piping is much longer than a short ram which means the gains in power and not noticed until the mid to higher RPM range. A short ram intake on the other hand is located within the engine bay and an increase in horsepower with better response times as compared to a cold air, however the air is not as dense, consequently it doesn’t make as much power and the upper RPM region and produces less power overall.
